Technology of the oscillating wire
The DIGI SENS has a unique technology for the measurement of forces and weights, which makes use of the natural vibration of a string. Similar to a guitar, a string is excited to vibrate and changes its vibration frequency depending on the tension force.
This unique technology is the core and heart of DIGI SENS and is characterized by the following extraordinary properties compared to other technologies:
Small deformations
The oscillating wire requires only a few micrometers of deformation for reliable measurement. Its resolution limit is in the nanometer range.
High signal yield
DIGI SENS sensors have a large frequency range, so even the smallest changes can be measured. Compared to other technologies, the vibrating wire allows a signal yield up to a factor of 5 higher.
Simple, digital interfaces
The output signal of the sensors is a digital TTL signal which corresponds to the frequency of the sensor’s natural frequency. This signal can be read and processed directly by a microcontroller, among other things, so no further electronics are required for evaluation.
High immunity to interference
Digital frequency modulation has major advantages over analog measurements in data transmission against external interference. This results in a better quality signal that is independent of cable connection.
Intrinsic safety
DIGI SENS sensors are characterized by integrated intrinsic safety, as the sensors use the natural natural frequency of a wire as signal generation. In the event of defective sensors or broken cables, the frequency is no longer visible and can be detected by the control electronics.
Digital measurement technology
The technology of the oscillating wire is a native digital sensor, i.e. it does not require the conversion of an analog signal into a digital one, making the sensor more accurate for applications.
Low energy consumption
The natural frequency of a wire is characterized by a low energy consumption. This is reflected in the sensor with a low current consumption.
Long-term stability
The parts of the DIGI SENS sensors that are important for measuring accuracy are exclusively metallic or crystalline. In particular, no adhesives are used, which change steadily over time due to aging. This is what distinguishes the unique long-term stability of DIGI SENS sensors.
